Newcastle: 'People at club not convinced' by 30 y/o Howe 'really likes'

Some of Newcastle’s hierarchy are not as convinced by defender Fabian Schar as Eddie Howe is, according to insider Dean Jones.

Schar has become a regular starter since Howe replaced Steve Bruce in the dugout at St James’ Park in November.

At the start of the season, Schar was out of favour under Bruce. He started just two of Newcastle’s opening 11 league games as the Magpies made a dismal start to their campaign.

However, his fortunes have turned around with Howe in charge. Since the former Bournemouth manager arrived, Schar has started 17 of Newcastle’s 18 top-flight matches, and he was even handed the captain’s armband for the side’s final fixture before the international break against Everton.

The 30-year-old is out of contract this summer, but Howe is reportedly very keen to keep him at the club heading into next season.

Jones is aware that Howe admires Schar’s skillset, but he has suggested that other people behind-the-scenes at Newcastle do not rate the centre-back as highly.

Talking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones said: “Eddie Howe really likes Schar. There are some people around the club that aren’t as convinced as Eddie Howe is about that.”

Schar has become an important part of Newcastle’s starting line-up, particularly since the turn of the year as the side have started to move clear of the bottom three.

Howe’s side achieved a nine-match unbeaten streak from late-December through to mid-March, and Schar was an ever-present during this run.
