Newcastle: 'Excitement from within' over £40m star

There is ‘an excitement’ within Newcastle United over their new signing Bruno Guimaraes, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.

The Magpies enjoyed a fruitful January transfer window bringing in five signings to bolster Eddie Howe’s first-team squad and the 24-year-old was the most expensive of the lot.

Newcastle became the richest club in world football when a Saudi-backed consortium finally completed their takeover of the club, buying out previous owner Mike Ashley for around £305 million.

In what was their first transfer window at the helm, the club’s new owners forked out over £90m to bring Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn, Chris Wood, Matt Targett and Guimaraes to St. James’ Park.

And the winter acquisitions are already beginning to have an impact upon the North East outfit in their fight for Premier League survival.

Howe’s charges have remained unbeaten in the top-flight throughout 2022, claiming four wins and two draws from their six outings, moving four points and four places clear of the relegation zone.

However, Guimaraes is yet to feature from the off for Newcastle since his £40m arrival from Ligue 1 outfit Lyon, with the form of Jonjo Shelvey and Joelinton limiting him to just 28 minutes of action so far.

But the Brazil international will presumably receive ample opportunities to impress later down the line, something the club’s supporters will surely be eagerly anticipating.

Downie has revealed that people from within Newcastle have been more ‘positive’ over Guimaraes than any other new signing the club have made in recent times.
