Newcastle confident of completing £45m deal for Premier League winger on one condition

Newcastle United are confident of wrapping up a £45million deal for Crystal Palace forward Eberechi Eze this summer – provided the Magpies can survive relegation.

Eddie Howe’s said had a £5m loan proposal rejected by the Eagles in January, after the Magpies attempted to take Eze on loan for the remainder of the season.

The offer included a £35m right-to-buy clause but Palace were not interested and did not want to sell to a top-flight rival midway through the campaign.

However, Howe remains keen on signing Eze and Newcastle believe they can complete a deal this summer if they manage to remain in the Premier League, according to the Sun.

The 23-year-old joined Palace from QPR 18 months ago for a fee of £16m and Palace can nearly triple that by selling to the Magpies.

Eze suffered a horrific achilles injury last May which has stunted his progress at Selhurst Park, while the emergence of Michael Olise has also provided strong competition for the winger.

Newcastle, of course, have plenty of cash to spend but they need to survive relegation if they’re to maximise their resources.

Howe’s side are unbeaten in their last five, helping the club to leapfrog Norwich into 17th.
