Newcastle boss Eddie Howe pushing like crazy for transformative deadline-day deal

Newcastle have not given up hope on signing Jesse Lingard on transfer deadline day, according to TEAMtalk sources.

The England midfielder is understood to be Eddie Howe’s number one midfield target. However, a deal has not proved to be straight forward with Manchester United. Although Lingard has played only one minute in the Premier League under Ralf Rangnick, the German is not keen on seeing the 29-year-old leave.

Lingard is out of contract in the summer and desperately wants to go and play ahead of the World Cup at the end of the year.

According to our information Newcastle are “working very hard” to agree a transfer with United.

Newcastle have so far refused to agree to a £12m survival bonus as part of any loan deal, as well as covering the player’s wages in full.

ESPN also report that Newcastle have an interest in Dele Alli, but they will only sign one of Ali or Lingard.

Howe is understood to be keen to get a deal for Lingard. However, they could turn to Alli at the 11th hour, with a deal believed to be easier to do.

Newcastle also want another keeper in too. Dean Henderson at Manchester United and Bernd Leno at Arsenal are the two names in the frame.

However, loan restrictions could block temporary deals for those two.

Premier League clubs are only allowed to register two loan players. And with Matt Targett set to sign on Monday, it would leave only one space remaining.
