New 'unearthed footage' shows Michael Masi delivering exactly what Red Bull asked for

F1 fans have taken to social media to share 'new footage' of Michael Masi's radio interaction with Red Bull sporting director Jonathan Wheatley in the final few laps of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The new F1 season is nearly underway with Red Bull unveiling their RB18 later today.

But, while attention is swiftly moving on to the new campaign, there remains a few issues from last season's dramatic finale.

The FIA's investigation into the handling of the race is underway and the findings will not be published until March 18.

The backlash from that race remains though with Hamilton's supporters still furious at how the final lap panned out.

It looked as though the race would finish under a safety car, before Masi stepped in to allow only the lapped cars in between Verstappen and Hamilton through before the final lap.

That decision led to fury in the Mercedes garage with Toto Wolff in disbelief at what he had witnessed.

Appeals were lodged after the race, but the FIA ultimately stuck with the final race decision.

Masi has since come under intense scrutiny with the FIA even admitting that his job as race director is under threat.

Hamilton's most ardent supporters have continued to air their support on social media.

And they've now 'unearthed' footage that shows Masi delivering exactly what Red Bull were asking for.

"Obviously those lapped cars, you don't need to let them go right the way around and catch up the back of the pack," Wheatley could be heard saying.

Masi simply replied with: "Understood."

Wheatley added: "You need to let them go."
