New Leinster deals for Van der Flier, Ed Byrne and Frawley

Josh van der Flier, Ed Byrne and Ciarán Frawley have all committed themselves to Leinster by signing new deals with the province.

The URC champions confirmed the three renewals this evening, although they have not revealed the length of the contracts.

Van der Flier moved past his century of Leinster appearances earlier this season, with the 28-year-old having worked his way back into the Ireland team in the past 12 months, and is now first choice openside for both province and country.

The flanker was the third and final piece of contract news on a busy day for the province, with loosehead Ed Byrne and centre Ciarán Frawley also agreeing new deals.

Carlow native Byrne has played 77 times for the province since his debut in 2014, while the 28-year-old has earned six Irish caps since his debut in 2020.

Frawley received his first call-up to the Ireland squad last November but is yet to make his debut, and the 24-year-old is unfortunately facing up to six weeks sidelined following a nasty facial injury in last Friday's URC win against Edinburgh at the RDS.

It's been a busy week on the contract front for the four-time European champions, with head coach Leo Cullen also agreeing an extension this week.

However, they may soon be looking for a new defence coach, with reports that Felipe Contepomi is in pole position to become head coach of his native Argentina, following the resignation of Mario Ledesma earlier this month.
