New King Power Stadium decision date as Leicester City defender rates his fitness

Leicester City are still waiting for the council’s judgement on their King Power Stadium expansion plans after the consultation period was extended.

City unveiled their ambitious project last summer as they look to build a new stand and increase the capacity of their home ground to 40,000 while revitalising the surrounding area with indoor entertainment arena, hotel, and more.

A hybrid planning application was submitted last October – including a detailed plan of proposed East Stand expansion along with outline plans for the new buildings around the stadium – and Leicester City Council’s consultation over the submission was due to conclude on February 2, with a target decision date set for February 10.

No decision arrived, and now the date has been pushed back. Consultation over the plans continues, and those will run until March 31, with a new target decision date set for April 20. Read more here.

Playing two games in quick succession is too risky for Jonny Evans at the moment as he prepares to start for Northern Ireland on Friday night.

The Leicester City centre-back made his first appearance since mid-December at the weekend, coming on as a substitute in the 2-1 victory over Brentford. That prompted a late international call-up, following conversations between City manager Brendan Rodgers, Northern Ireland boss Ian Baraclough, and Adam Sadler, who works as a coach for both.

However, it’s not the case that Evans will be pushed too hard too soon, with the 34-year-old to be assessed at half-time in Friday’s friendly with Luxembourg to see how he is coping. Then, he will drop out of the squad, playing no part in their game against Hungary next Tuesday.
