New ‘ice cream emporium’ opening from the team behind hidden speakeasy

A new ‘ice cream emporium’ is all set to open on Stevenson Square. Called Sweet!, it’s by the team behind the hidden Northern Quarter speakeasy The Fitzgerald, and is opening its doors this week.

The new location is just around the corner from The Fitzgerald, next door to Hula, another of the team’s bar projects.

They told the M.E.N: “Stevenson Square has become a bit of a hub in summer over the last couple of years. It's the place to be, especially now it's been pedestrianised permanently. So we thought, what's missing from the square, what will work well? And we landed on ice cream.

“The ice cream is Mrs Dowsons which comes from a dairy farm in the Ribble Valley in Blackburn. Mrs Dowsons produce high-quality all-natural ingredients for their ice cream.

“But even though it's a dairy farm we will still be serving plenty of vegan options too. We will also be serving coffee, milkshakes and pick-and-mix.”

Among the flavours on offer will be strawberry, mint choc chip, chocolate and vanilla, as well as a range of vegan-friendly sorbets.

The spot will be opening for a soft launch on Wednesday (April 26), from 12pm and will be giving away 200 free ice creams on the day. Then it opens properly on Friday (April 28).
