New date confirmed for Dundalk-St Patrick's Athletic clash

Following the postponement of Sunday's Premier Division clash between Dundalk and St Patrick's Athletic, the League of Ireland have confirmed that the fixture will now take place on Thursday, 5 September.

With Pat's travelling to Turkey to take on Istanbul Basaksehir in the second leg of their Conference League play-off on Wednesday next, manager Stephen Kenny hit out at the fixture, branding the refusal to postpone the Oriel Park fixture - which had originally been moved from Friday to Sunday - as "insane" and "hard to fathom."

On Friday, the decision to postpone was confirmed, with the league's governing body saying the decision was taken "as a result of the unique opportunity that now exists for two League of Ireland clubs to compete in the league phase of UEFA Club competitions for the first time."

The statement continued: "Having taken into consideration the exceptional circumstances that the fixtures between each leg for St Patrick Athletic is six days instead of the standard seven, the League of Ireland has postponed this Sunday's fixture at Oriel Park and a new date will be announced in due course."

The new date will be a week on Thursday, with a 7.45pm kick-off at the Co Louth venue.

Kenny's side head to Turkey this week with their chances of qualification for the Conference League still alive, this after a 0-0 draw in the first leg at Tallaght Stadium.
