Netflix confirms release date and teases new trailer for Bird Box spin-off

Netflix has confirmed the release date for Bird Box Barcelona, alongside a new teaser trailer. The film is a spin-off from the 2018 hit Bird Box, which starred Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes and John Malkovich.

In the post-apocalyptic horror, people had to protect themselves from entities which cause people who look at them to kill themselves. Bird Box was based on the on the novel of the same name by Josh Malerman.

The original film was viewed by an impressive 45 million accounts in its first week on Netflix. Five years on, the streaming giant is hoping to follow on from that success with an anthology based in Europe.

Bird Box Barcelona, which is unsurprisingly set in Spain, follows Sebastián and Anna who are trying to avoid the deadly entities. When the pair joins a group of blindfolded strangers, they’re warned of an imminent threat that further jeopardizes their safety.

Netflix confirmed the film takes place at the same time as the original. Goya Award winners Mario Casas, Lola Dueñas and Leonardo Sbaraglia star in the thriller.

The film will debut on Netflix on Wednesday July 14. Watch the official teaser trailer below.
