Neil Robertson plays ‘best shot in the last 10 years’ at Players Championship

Neil Robertson played a memorable shot in the final frame of his 6-4 win over Kyren Wilson at the Players Championship on Monday night, which a fellow snooker star described as ‘the best shot they’ve seen in the past 10 years’.

The Thunder from Down Under was 41-32 points behind in the tenth frame but at the table, so needing to clear to pink for victory.

However, the brown was tight to the cushion, so despite being on the green, it looked likely that the break would end when potting the next ball.

Certainly Ken Doherty on commentary thought so, with the Irishman saying: ‘I don’t think he’s even going to attempt to get on the brown here, I think he’s just going to pot the green and try and leave the cue ball somewhere in the D to play a telling safety shot.’

However, Robertson took Crafty Ken, and the rest of us, by surprise as he potted the green and managed to develop the brown perfectly in a superb display of accuracy.

‘Would you believe it?’ Doherty said. ‘What a shot he’s played there! Brilliant! That was definitely shot of the match so far.’

Robertson revealed afterwards that another player went even further than ‘shot of the match’ and thought it was the best of the last decade.

He tweeted: ‘A former ranking event winner said it’s the best shot they’ve seen in the past 10 years. Certainly high praise.

‘Nice when shots come out like this when the frame is on the line as well. Still fatigued but hopefully better for the quarters.’
