Nathan Bishop explains what Erik ten Hag is demanding from Manchester United's goalkeepers

Nathan Bishop has explained that Erik ten Hag wants his goalkeepers to be more proactive in matches.

Bishop, 22, enjoyed a successful loan spell at Mansfield last season and he helped his side reach the League Two play-off final at Wembley. Bishop returned to United this summer and he travelled on the pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.

It was understood United were keen for Bishop to play in a higher division at his next club on loan and that the goalkeeper was in talks to join League One side Wycombe Wanderers in June, but that proposed deal eventually did not materialise.

That has meant Bishop has been left to train with the first-team and to play for Mark Dempsey's U21s when called upon. Bishop started for the U21s against West Ham in the Premier League 2 on Friday night and he reflected on his development after the game.

Bishop discussed what Ten Hag has demanded from his goalkeepers and he admitted that he would be open to another loan. Bishop is keen for first-team minutes after his time with Mansfield and it is likely he will leave United on loan in January.

"Do you know what, Erik [Ten Hag] has come in and he has brought a philosophy [proactive]," Bishop told the Manchester Evening News. "When you see the way David is playing now, running out and getting onto the ball, it’s coming down from the first team.

"I’m learning from the best goalkeepers in the world, so to have that in front of me and to learn from that is the most important thing. It’s unreal, training with some of the best players, the best defenders, the best goalkeepers and we’ve got top coaches.
