Nathan Aspinall sinks Gerwyn Price to reign in Rotterdam

Nathan Aspinall beat Gerwyn Price 6-4 in the final of night 12 of the Cazoo Premier League in Rotterdam, where he earlier defeated home favourite Michael Van Gerwen.

Aspinall secured his first overall victory in the tournament to end the run of Price, but the Welshman finished the evening top of the overall standings a point ahead of Dutchman Van Gerwen.

Price had been looking for a fifth weekly victory and appeared on course after first dispatching world champion Michael Smith before then coasting past countryman Jonny Clayton 6-1 with with six 180s.

Aspinall, though, continued to peg Price back in the final, before moving 3-2 ahead with a 12-dart finish then pushing him on towards victory which he secured on a 71 checkout.

"To bounce back like I have done, I have worked so hard to find what I needed, it has all come together," said Aspinall, who moves up to third in the table above Clayton and Smith.

"After last week [losing in Brighton], I didn't think I would be able to walk back on the stage, that is how bad I felt."

Aspinall added on Sky Sports: "I pulled out of a tournament at the weekend, spent some great time with my family, which is what I needed to refocus myself."

Earlier, Aspinall had silenced the home support at a packed Rotterdam Ahoy when he edged Van Gerwen in a last-leg decider, finishing with an impressive 118 check-out, after the Dutchman had fought back from 4-2 down.

Aspinall then saw off Dimitri van den Bergh 6-4 with a 99.2 average.

Elsewhere in the quarter-finals, Price had come from 3-1 behind to record a 6-3 win over Smith, runner-up to the Welshman last week, landing three 180s and with match average of 102.
