Nate Diaz has again hinted at UFC retirement in stark contrast to Dana White's claims that the American will sign a new deal.

The American star has just one fight remaining on his current deal with the promotion but has no bout planned.

He has verbally agreed a fight with Dustin Poirier but has also traded social media hints with Conor McGregor over a potential trilogy bout.

And Diaz has once again indicated his next fight could be his last, tweeting: "I’m ready to fight my last fight, I got s*** to do."

White seemed more relaxed about Diaz's future when asked about it after Colby Covington's win over Jorge Masvidal.

"Very good," White told reporters at the UFC 272 post-fight news conference when asked about the prospect of Diaz putting pen to paper..

Several options could open up for Diaz outside of the UFC including a boxing clash with YouTube star Jake Paul, who has frequently tried to entice the star into the ring.

Diaz was reportedly considering starting his own promotion alongside his brother Nick which would allow the pair to fight outside of the UFC and generate lucrative paydays.

White previously admitted Diaz could decide to move on if he is "doubting" his ability to compete with the leading fighters.
