Naoya Inoue knocks out Nonito Donaire to unify the WBA, WBC and IBF bantamweight titles

Naoya Inoue unleashed a string of punches that left the referee with no decision but to step in and stop the fight after downing Nonito Donaire before the second round finished.

The Japanese boxer already has his sights on his next move, declaring he wants to become the undisputed bantamweight world champion.

All he needs to become the undisputed champion is the WBO belt which is currently held by Paul Butler. That means his next moves will be clear, to achieve what he wants, a fight with Butler has to take place and he has to win.

Could we see Butler challenged by Inoue in the near future? It certainly sounds like it with his aims clear. Butler has already hinted at the potential fight going ahead.

After Inoue’s win, he had this to say: “I hope he does want to try and be undisputed. It’d be an absolute honour to step in the ring with a pound-for-pound great… Joe [Gallagher] will come up with a game plan. It’ll be a tough task, but it’s a task I’m willing to take.”

After watching that footage of the knockout, Butler will surely be wary of taking on the Japanese boxer given his capabilities. If he can replicate that performance he’ll surely be a match for anyone in his division?!
