Music megastars descend on Manchester to film new Netflix talent show Building the Band

Stars from some of the biggest boybands and girlbands in the history of pop music are all in Manchester - preparing to film a major new Netflix talent show to rival the likes of The X Factor and The Voice.

One Direction's Liam Payne, Backstreet Boys star AJ McLean and Pussycat Dolls star Nicole Scherzinger have all been pictured arriving in Manchester in the past week for rehearsals on the new show. Destiny's Child star Kelly Rowland is also set to join the stars for filming which begins in full force this weekend.

The new show was announced by Netflix back in May with the working title Building the Band. The stars involved had been kept a closely guarded secret - until now.

Last week three of the music megastars involved in the show were all spotted enjoying Manchester's nightlife on breaks from rehearsals. The talent show is all due to be filmed at the city's landmark new arts venue, the £240m Aviva Studios.

Pussycat Dolls star Nicole was first to be pictured in Manchester, heading for a sunny stroll through the city after lunch at Greek restaurant Fenix on Quay Street. Then One Direction star Liam was spotted as he headed out to celebhaunt bar Sexy Fish on Spinningfields with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy.

Backstreet Boys legend AJ McLean has also been pictured chatting to fans in the city. Kelly Rowland is the fourth star involved, but has yet to be seen pictured in Manchester but is due to arrive here before Friday for confirmed filming days.

Building the Band is set to offer a new spin on the classic talent show concept - as singers will all compete to join a band without ever seeing each other in the auditions - until a final reveal.
