Murder investigation launched after man found dead in house in Rochdale

Residents on two Rochdale estates were left in shock this morning as forensic officers descended on their streets following the discovery of a dead man in a house. A man has now been arrested on suspicion of murder, police have confirmed, as investigations continue on Industry Road and Gale Road.

Officers were called to the scene of the incident on Industry Road just after 12.30am this morning (Monday). They tragically found the man's body inside a home.

Gale Road residents said there was a commotion on the street around 5.30am with police quickly on the scene and a cordon in place there throughout the morning and early afternoon. Police earlier told the MEN that a man was in custody helping with enquiries, but they have since confirmed that he has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Forensic officers could be seen placing evidence markers behind the property on Industry Road. One resident sat outside their house on Duke Street looking onto the cordon told the MEN that residents were in the dark as to what had happened.

"We were up in the night with our seven week old baby and noticed a few police cars driving around but had no idea something was going on," they said. "You don't see many police cars around here it's usually quite quiet, you only see them if something big has happened.

"It's worrying to see this, having young kids in the house. It's a bit too close to home."

A member of staff at Shaun's Chippy on the corner of Industry Street, who also lives nearby, described the incident as a shock. "I only live around the corner but had no idea something had happened. It's not what you want to see, no one knows what's happened,"
