Murder accused tells police interview co-defendant who shot businessman was the ‘alpha brother’

A man accused of murder told police that his co-defendant who shot businessman Zikel Bobmanuel was the ‘alpha brother’.

Emmanuel Onasanya, 32, and Rumaal Ingram, 36, are both accused of the murder of Mr Bobmanuel and are on trial at Manchester Crown Court. Ingram has previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Jurors were previously told that Mr Bobmanuel died after his brother Ingram opened fire in the street. The bullet hit the floor and ricocheted, hitting 32-year-old Mr Bobmanuel in the neck.

He told the officers that after coming out of the army he began his own business of cleaning trainers, and both Ingram and Mr Bobmanuel were regular customers. Mr Onasanya said that a year and a half before his death, Mr Bobmanuel gave him ‘six or seven’ pairs of trainers to clean.

“I tried to get in touch to get them back to him, then last week he messaged us asking for them back, but he didn’t come back to me,” he
