Munster sign Scottish lock as injury problems continue

Munster have confirmed the short-term signing of Scottish second row Kiran McDonald, after Thomas Ahern and Jean Kleyn joined the extensive injury list at the province.

The 27-year-old joins on a three-month deal, having been released by Wasps when the English club entered administration last week.

The signing is made after Graham Rowntree's second-row stocks were further depleted due to injuries for Ahern and Kleyn in last week's defeat to Leinster.

Kleyn has been ruled out for "a number of weeks" due to a rib injury, while Ahern is set to meet with a specialist to determine the extent of a shoulder knock he suffered at the Aviva Stadium. The Waterford man has also been ruled out of next week's Ireland A game against an All Black XV at the RDS.

They join fellow locks RG Snyman, Fineen Wycherley and Paddy Kelly on the injury list, while Tadhg Beirne is in camp with Ireland.

Glasgow-native McDonald came through the ranks at the Warriors, before moving to Wasps in the summer of 22.

He's the third short-term signing made by the province this week, with his former Wasps teammate John Ryan returning to his home province, while former Worcester centre Oli Morris has also joined for the rest of the season.
