Munster lock Jean Kleyn out until New Year with eye injury

Munster have been dealt another injury blow after lock Jean Kleyn was ruled out until the New Year with an eye injury.

Graham Rowntree's men, who face Bayonne in the Champions Cup on Saturday, are already without the services of fellow South African World Cup winner RG Snyman, who won’t be available until the latter stages of the season because of a shoulder/chest injury.

"Jean Kleyn will be unavailable until the New Year due to an eye injury suffered in the Leinster match," the province said.

"He attended for a specialist review last Tuesday and Wednesday and will have further follow-up before Christmas."

Kleyn, 30, recently signed a two-year contract extension with the club as it was confirmed that the injury-plagued Snyman will leave at the end of the season.

Flanker Peter O’Mahony is also still out of action as he recovers from a shoulder injury and won't feature against the French side, who sit tenth in the Top14 table.

Jack Daly (ankle) and Liam Coombes (shoulder) both underwent surgery last week and will begin rehabilitation under the medical department.

There was good news for back Patrick Campbell (ankle) as he has returned to team training, while back row Jack O’Donoghue (ankle) will also return to training this week.

Full-back Simon Zebo (knee) will continue to rehabilitate early this week and all three will be assessed later in the week and are not yet ruled out of contention.

Munster beat Glasgow Warriors 40-29 in the BKT URC at the weekend.
