Munster final terrace tickets sell out in 11 minutes

The 11,000 strong allocation of terrace tickets for June's Munster hurling final, which went on sale at 10am yesterday morning, sold out in 11 minutes.

All remaining tickets are held with the Clare and Limerick county boards, and with season ticket holders. In a statement, released today, the Munster Council said that all tickets which went on sale on Wednesday, via Ticketmaster, Centra and Supervalu, had sold out by 10.11am.

The Munster Council say "it is not expected" that any tickets will be returned by either of the county boards and thus, they are anticipating a sell-out event at the 5 June decider in FBD Insurance Semple Stadium.

It is the first time that Clare and Limerick have contested a Munster final since 1995, when the former ended a 63-year wait for provincial glory.

This year's Munster final will be the first contested for the new Mick Mackey Cup, Munster GAA having decided in 2021 to launch a new trophy named in honour of the Limerick great of the 1930s.

Speaking at the launch of the new trophy this week, GAA Chairman Ger Ryan said "On behalf of the Munster Council, I am delighted that the Mackey name will be indelibly linked with the winners of the Munster Senior Hurling Championship.

"The legend of Mick Mackey and his contribution to hurling in the 1930s and 1940s is well known. However, Mick's contribution to the GAA didn’t end with his playing days and he served as the Limerick delegate to Munster Council for many years.

"I would like to thank Limerick GAA County Board for commissioning the Mick Mackey Cup and I look forward to presenting the trophy to the captain of the Munster Hurling champions on Sunday week."
