Munster extend Hodnett deal while Goggin and French also sign contracts

John Hodnett, Dan Goggin and James French have all signed new contracts with Munster until the summer of 2024.

Hodnett, who has impressed in his comeback from a year-long Achilles injury, has been rewarded with a 12-months extension to his current deal, which still had 18 months left to run on it.

The 23-year-old back row has featured in all four Heineken Champions Cup pool games, and will remain at his home province until June 2024.

Dan Goggin has agreed a two-year extension. The 27-year-old has played just four times this season, but has been a key squad member in recent years, making 71 appearances for the province since his debut in 2017.

And they have also signed prop James French (below) to a new two-year deal.

The 23-year-old tighthead made his debut in December's Champions Cup opener against Wasps, in what is his first season in the senior squad, having come through the province's academy.

Munster completed a clean sweep of their pool on Sunday, defeating the English side 45-7 at Thomond Park.

While Johann van Graan's side had won three of their previous four games, Sunday's six-try victory was the most open contest they had played since the reverse fixture with Wasps in December.

Speaking on this week's RTÉ Rugby podcast, Donal Lenihan says the province showed far greater willingness to attack early in the game.

"The intent was there," Lenihan said.

"Right from the outset of the game Andrew Conway got four or five touches in the first 10 minutes, all of a sudden you're playing.

"You've a quality back three three; Zebo, Mike Haley is having a fantastic season, Conway is electric. It was Munster playing to their strengths."
