Mum-of-two who got behind wheel after downing wine because her partner was out late slapped with 'sobriety tag'

A mum who was caught drink-driving after an argument with her partner has been slapped with a 'sobriety tag' to help curb her drinking.

Kerry Green, 39, had been drinking wine at home when her partner of 16 years went out to watch a football match following a business trip and was out longer than expected, a court heard.

After he returned, she got in her car to go and see a friend but was pulled over at 1.30am after officers on patrol spotted her driving with no headlights on in the dark and almost colliding with lampposts as she swerved over the road.

Her 'eyes were glazed and her speech was slurred' as she spoke to the officers, the court was told. Two breath samples showed she was around four times the legal drink-drive limit but Green was unable to complete a full breath test procedure and she kicked out at a police officer as she was being searched.

The mother of two from Macclesfield, Cheshire, later claimed her partner, an engineer who inspects potentially hazardous workplaces, regularly went away on business and she had to spend ''an awful lot of time at home alone'' with their children aged 12 and 14.

At South Cheshire Magistrates Court, Green, a former bistro assistant, admitted failing to provide a breath sample and assaulting a PC and was banned from driving for three years. She was also ordered to wear a 'sobriety tag' for four months to help curb her drinking.
