Mum 'heartbroken' after teen vandals 'kick the s*** out of walls' in Salford apartment block

A mum is living in fear after a gang of teenagers smashed up her Salford apartment block in a "heartbreaking" rampage.

The worried parent, who has asked the Manchester Evening News to remain anonymous, lives in Barton Lane, Eccles. She moved into the building, managed by For Housing, several weeks ago, and says security issues means she’s never had to use her building’s fob to gain entry.

Now, she has asked ForHousing to install CCTV cameras to prevent the youths doing more damage to the building. Photos show large holes in the walls where teens have 'kicked', she says.

“It has been a nightmare,” the mum told the M.E.N. “There are two security doors and both of them are permanently disabled so they are always open. I have never used my fob to get into the building. I was shown round on August 15 and the doors were open then.

“They were reset three weeks ago and they were opened up by kids — they don’t live here and they’re about 13-15 years old — within two hours. They are kicking the s*** out of the walls.

“It’s escalating — they are moving up the floors and I am on the top floor and eventually they got to me on Saturday. My kid’s 17. When she comes home from college, why does she have to think about this?

“It’s heartbreaking to see what they are doing to it. I am thinking if I need to get another lock installed. What happens if they are not content with kicking the doors? They could set the building on fire.”

It’s understood that Greater Manchester Police have had one confirmed report linked to the property, but no formal request to step up patrols has been made by ForHousing.
