Moyes plotting “unbelievable” West Ham move for £49k-p/w machine, he’d be Evra 2.0 - opinion

West Ham United are believed to be keeping tabs on free agent Djibril Sidibe as Irons manager David Moyes plots further summer additions at the London Stadium.

As per French outlet But!, the Hammers are said to have ‘shown interest’ in the 29-year-old regarding a potential move, with the defender set to be available for nothing after leaving Ligue 1 outfit Monaco earlier this summer.

The 18-cap France international had spent six years at Stade Louis II, notably forming part of that famed side which bettered the mighty Paris Saint-Germain to claim the league title in 2017, only to be swiftly disbanded in the years afterwards.

The right-back also has previous Premier League experience, having spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Everton, making 28 appearances for the Merseysiders in all competitions during his time at Goodison Park.

While clearly a talented player, having been part of Les Bleus’ World Cup-winning squad in 2018, there could be question marks as to the wisdom of bringing in a player who hardly pulled up any trees during his stint with the Toffees, with the club having failed to make his temporary move permanent.

The Troyes native had been dubbed “unbelievable” by former Toffees caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson during his time in England, although he never managed to nail down a regular berth at the Merseyside club, making just 18 starts in the top flight.

It would seem almost ‘unbelievable’ that Moyes and co would contemplate turning to the full-back considering that previous underwhelming stint, as well as the fact that the Scotsman already has Vladimir Coufal and Ben Johnson as strong options at right-back, along with promising youngster Harrison Ashby.
