Motorbike being 'driven dangerously' is followed by police before smashing into car as man arrested

A motorbike being 'driven dangerously' was followed by police before smashing into a car in Gorton on Wednesday afternoon (June 14).

The bike was first spotted by officers on Hyde Road at around 3.10pm. A short pursuit ensued before it smashed into a car. The motorcyclist sustained injuries that are non life-threatening.

A woman, who was driving the car, escaped uninjured but was left 'shaken' after the smash and is assisting police with their enquiries into the incident.

A 22-year-old male was arrested on suspicion dangerous driving, failing to stop, theft of a motor vehicle and possession with intent to supply cannabis. He also failed a drugs test.

Pictures from the scene show a number of police vehicles at the scene of the collision on Hyde Road with officers within a cordon at the junction with Wellington Street. Rapid response ambulance vehicles also attended.

Inspector Daniel Pickavance said: “It is incredibly dangerous driving recklessly at high speed, that is why as a force we are clamping down on this kind of behaviour.”

“The effect of dangerous or reckless use of a vehicle can lead to criminal damage of roads, other vehicles and surrounding property.

“Drivers and riders also risk injuring themselves, other road users, cyclists and pedestrians as they do not have full control of their vehicle and their full attention on their surroundings.”
