MotoGP Silverstone: Vinales ‘objective is to win a race this season’

Maverick Viñales is riding a wave at Aprilia after a strong performance before the MotoGP summer break and arrives at Silverstone full of motivation.

The momentum is on the Spaniard’s side, especially at a track he’s enjoyed past success and one he openly enjoys.

“The good thing is, Silverstone, that less or more all sectors are very similar,” Viñales explained of his preparation on Thursday. “It is true that we have fast sector in sector one, but at the end is changing direction. So less or more the track is very similar, even if it’s long, so the setup should work. I mean, we have a setup from Assen, kind of a track with fast changing direction, some brakes, so should work well.”

With four podiums to his name at the British track, including one victory, Viñales has a symmetry with Silverstone that is hard to challenge and with almost a year on the RS-GP, the 27-year-old is full of confidence for the weekend ahead but does he believe this is his ‘perfect chance’ to return to winning ways?

“The perfect place? It has to be every track,” the Aprilia rider said assuredly. “For me, I mean, I have the mentality that every track it has to be fantastic for us. But it’s true that with Silverstone I have a special feeling. Especially I’ve been very successful here in the past. But now it’s time to put us in the present so we’ll see how we are but I feel very motivated.

“I feel we can start the second part of the season very strong and one objective until the end of the season is trying to win a race.

“So let’s start from zero and we will focus on the next part but I feel calm and I feel I can do the job so let’s go for it.”
