MotoGP: Riders react as Red Bull Ring reveals new chicane on circuit

MotoGP is in Austria this weekend as the Red Bull Ring hosts the latest round of the championship, and it has a new chicane to show off.

The circuit is one of the fastest on the calendar and also has, therefore, one of the shortest lap-times but it has also thrown up some pretty scary accidents in the past, especially speaking in terms of the long run from turn one up the hill, through the kink of turn two and into turn three.

Indeed, it’s a section of track that sparked complaints from riders as not being overly safe, particularly if someone loses control of their bike at high speed before a sharp braking zone and effectively a 90-degree right-hander, and there have been some very narrow escapes from disaster there in the recent past.

The riders wanted to see something put in place to try and slow the bikes down in the lead up to turn three, then, and so the natural avenue to go down was to put in a chicane, which has now been installed:
