MotoGP Portimao: ‘America showed what we’re capable of’ - Marquez
All eyes are on Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez once again this weekend as MotoGP prepares for the Portuguese Grand Prix.
Marquez proved he was back to his incomparable best last time out with a scintillating ride through the pack from dead last to sixth at the flag despite a rapid comeback from his recurring diplopia diagnosis.
Portimao’s Algarve International Circuit marks the start of the European season for the premier class and while the eight-time World Champion has limited knowledge of the rollercoaster 4.6km layout, a best finish of seventh on his return from 2020’s season ending injury proves he always remains a threat.
“I am looking forward to riding in Portugal, it’s a demanding circuit that’s very physical but a lot of fun to ride,” Marquez stated ahead of the weekend.
“In America we showed our speed and what we are capable of, even if everything did not go perfectly. I want to again be fighting at the front and getting good points after not the best start to the year.
“We have to keep working on ourselves and the bike to be able to achieve our maximum, but I know myself and Honda are working hard.”
