MotoGP Phillip Island: Lowes ‘feeling stronger and ready for fantastic track’

A recovering Sam Lowes is looking forward to returning to Phillip Island on the Elf Marc VDS Moto2 this weekend.

A favourite of the Brit’s thanks to a rookie top five finish followed up by second from 2015’s front row, Lowes enjoys the fast, flowing nature of the 4.5km Australian Circuit.

Two years away and his ongoing recovery from a tricky shoulder injury - added to the usual unpredictability of the Bass Coast weather - makes round 18 more of a challenge than normal but one the 32-year-old is firmly looking forward to.

“It’s always great to be heading to Phillip Island because it is just a fantastic track and I have some very good memories of racing there in the past,” Lowes said of the Australian venue. “I had some great results there in the early part of my career and the layout is great with lots of fast and flowing sections.

“There are lots of fast changes of direction and I’m looking forward to my shoulder feeling better and stronger again this weekend.

“I feel the gap after Thailand came at a good time for me so I can recover a bit more,” he confirmed. “The shoulder is definitely feeling better and I’m able to start training now with weights as well, so I’m looking forward to being more competitive and closer to the front this weekend.”
