MotoGP: Pecco Bagnaia learns from mistakes to seal third-straight victory in Austria

Pecco Bagnaia’s brilliant form continued on Sunday as he sealed his third-straight victory in MotoGP at the Austrian Grand Prix.

The Red Bull Ring quickly looked like a Ducati track over the course of the weekend, with both factory and satellite teams going fast.

Indeed, so that would prove on race day as well, as both Bagnaia and team-mate Jack Miller finished on the podium, whilst Fabio Quartararo produced a very strong performance on his Yamaha to join them in the top three and prevent Pecco from closing the gap in the championship by a bigger margin.

The momentum is certainly with Bagnaia, though, and after a start to the campaign that saw him make a number of mistakes, he said he learned from them to help him take victory on Sunday ahead of Quartararo:

“It was long, very long, it was a long race. To be calmer and careful, we chose to use the soft front, but it wasn’t the correct choice for me at the finish of the race, but I’m very happy, very happy. I made too many mistakes in the first part of the year so it was the time to be smarter.

“When I looked at the gap, I tried to be very constant with the lap times, because I was sure my pace was good enough to open this gap. In the last two laps, I just tried to be as calm as possible because the front tyre was closing everywhere. So, I’m very happy.

“Again, this weekend we have done an incredible job, so I’m very, very happy with my team; they have done an incredible job yesterday, so I’m very happy. We move on to Misano and I’m really looking forward to being there again.”
