MotoGP Austria: Espargaro confirmed at GasGas Tech3 for 2023

Pol Espargaro is confirmed to be heading back to the KTM family with Tech3 as GasGas joins the MotoGP grid for the 2023 season.

After two tricky years at Repsol Honda, Espargaro will return to the Austrian manufacture he rode with from 2017 to 2020, and under the stewardship of Herve Poncharal who brought the Spaniard into the premier class back in 2014, as they launch red alongside orange and introduce GasGas as a factory machine for the coming year.

Espargaro’s teammate is yet to be confirmed at the Poncharal led outfit, however, the offer to Miguel Oliveira has been reaffirmed from the powers that be. The ethos of the team will also continue the pathway for young riders across the classes, much like the initial KTM strategy, thanks to the GasGas Aspar connection through Moto3 and Moto2, which currently runs Jake Dixon.

“A young man, a Moto2 World Champion, that joined the MotoGP class with Tech3, his name is Pol Espargaro,” Poncharal explained from Spielberg. “We had a great few years together when we started, we discovered the MotoGP class together and I have always said that Pol is a real fighter.

“He was a key player in the KTM MotoGP programme and I’m delighted to announce he’s back in the family and we can’t wait to start working with him.

“I think he will be the perfect ambassador for the GasGas brand so this is like a fairy tale, ‘Welcome back Pol!’ I’m over the moon and I think this GasGas MotoGP project couldn’t start better than with Pol. This is fantastic news and I just can’t wait to be in November.”
