MotoGP Austin: Quartararo ‘on the attack’ for the AmericasGP

Monster Energy Yamaha’s MotoGP title defence isn’t quite going to plan after the Frenchman finished eighth in Argentina.

Nine podium-sitters in three races, however, leaves the championship wide open as the premier class heads to Texas. Quartararo sits fifth overall, ten points adrift of new leader Aleix Espargaro - after a stunning pole to flag victory on the Aprilia - and with fond memories of the Austin podium from just six months ago.

“Austin played a key part in my championship win last year,”Quartararo confirmed from the lone star state. “That second place was like a victory because it gave me my first match point to secure the championship. This time we arrive here in a totally different situation and with a different mindset.

“Last year I always tried to win, but I was also trying to keep the lead in the championship,” he continued. “We can afford to be more on the attack now. We will do our best as always.”

Though openly critical of the track conditions on his most recent visit, a winter resurface should provide a more favourable Circuit of the Americas for the Yamaha man to enjoy this time out.

“Last year the rear grip here was pretty decent, but the bumps were tough. The track has been resurfaced since then. I‘m curious to see what we can do this time round.”
