MotoGP Aragon: Crutchlow ‘happy to finish in the points’

A year on from his last MotoGP race, Cal Crutchlow was back in the mix and scoring points for the WithU Yamaha RNF team at Aragon.

A strong start for the Yamaha test rider found him on the edge of the top ten after gaining seven places on the opening lap, lucky to avoid the drama and chaos on track as the Aragon Grand Prix unfolded.

While maintaining a competitive pace, and enjoying a few on-track scraps along the way, the 36-year-old ultimately dropped back to cross the line in 14th, collecting two championship points and ‘best Yamaha’ honours following Fabio Quartararo’s lap one misfortune.

“First of all, it’s nice to get back into racing and finish the race,” Crutchlow said of his first race back. “I was not expecting much. I knew I was confident in my pace and I could do a good job this weekend. The team is happy and overall I’m happy.

“I tried my best, we know it’s not a great track for Yamaha, I never really had the ammunition to be able to fight but I try to fight.

“Over the weekend, you change your mindset to be able to see people in front of you and you want to pass them. Overall, we’re happy to come away from this first one after a year of not racing.”
