Motherwell linked with summer swoop for Northern Ireland captain Steven Davis

Ambitious Motherwell are eyeing up a sensational swoop for Northern Ireland skipper Steven Davis who has yet to sign a new deal at Rangers.

Davis, who helped the Old Firm giants lift the Scottish Cup with a 2-0 win over Hearts at the weekend, is out of contract in the summer.

And according to reports in Scotland, Motherwell boss Graham Alexander is keen to lure the 37-year-old midfielder to Fir Park if he bids farewell to Ibrox.

The Daily Mail stated that Davis won’t be short of offers and that the Steelmen “want to make the veteran midfielder an offer if his time at Ibrox is up”.

St Mirren, who are managed by former Northern Ireland midfielder Stephen Robinson, have also been linked with a move for Davis.

When asked about his plans after Saturday’s Scottish Cup final, Davis said: "I really don't know. We said we'd speak after this. We'll sit down next week or so and see where everything is."

Davis, who has made almost 350 appearances for Rangers over two spells with the club, has won a record 134 caps with Northern Ireland.

Ian Baraclough is set to name his squad for next month’s Uefa Nations League fixtures with Greece, Cyprus and Kosovo on Friday morning.

And supporters of the Green and White Army are hoping the long serving playmaker continues to wear his country's armband for the foreseeable future.

Davis started for Rangers in the Scottish Cup final and scored a spot-kick in last week's penalty shootout defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League final in Seville.
