Mosele special: On-loan midfielder haunts Pirates as valiant Chippa fight back to earn draw

In a captivating twist of fate, Chippa United midfielder Goodman Mosele, currently embarking on a season-long loan from Orlando Pirates, managed to find the back of the net against his parent team.

This exceptional feat, which cancelled out Bandile Shandu’s first-half goal, secured a well-deserved point for the Chilli Boys during their 1-1 DStv Premiership clash held at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Tuesday.

Mosele was surprisingly put on the outgoings transfer list at the end of last season, despite playing a significant role for the Soweto giants. What one team considers worthless, another club may find invaluable and he has been key in midfield for Chippa this season.

Returning from a successful season last year where head coach Jose Riveiro, in his first year in charge, guided his charges to a runners-up place in the league, a gold medal in the MTN8 as well as adding the Nedbank Cup crown to the trophy cabinet, the Buccaneers had poor start to this campaign, losing to Stellenbosch FC at the Danie Craven Stadium.

They immediately bounced back three days later, clawing to a 4-2 win against Royal AM. Then, they added a 5-0 thumping of Sekhukhune United to advance to the MTN8 semi-final, setting up a tasty revenge-like dual against Stellies next month.

Chippa, known for the chop and changing of coaches, recalled and tied down Morgan Mammila, and also guided the Chilli Boys to crucial two points from their goalless draws against Kaizer Chiefs and TS Galaxy.
