Morgan Gibbs-White sends message ahead of Wolves return amid AC Milan transfer links

Morgan Gibbs-White has penned a classy parting message to Sheffield United ahead of his return to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

A superb loan spell at Bramall Lane, which saw Gibbs-White net 12 times in 37 matches, ended in heartbreak on Tuesday evening as he missed a penalty in the play-off semi-final defeat to Nottingham Forest. Gibbs-White missed the decisive spot-kick as Forest advanced to Wembley via a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

The midfielder hinted that he would be open to a permanent transfer to Sheffield United last week, but that's now unlikely with the Blades remaining in the Championship. AC Milan have also been credited with an interest in the 22-year-old playmaker on the back of his exploits in south Yorkshire.

Bruno Lage is a huge admirer of Gibbs-White and offered him the chance to return to Molineux in January to rejoin the Wolves first team. The Wolves boss wants to integrate Gibbs-White into his first team in pre-season.

That decision isn't just in Lage's hands though. With Gibbs-White's value at an all-time high, the club's hierarchy will discuss their plans with the academy graduate in the coming weeks.

Bidding farewell to Sheffield United with an Instagram post, Gibbs-White said: "Words can’t justify how I’m feeling right now. First of all I want to say sorry for the other night but I’m so proud of the team and how we finished the season and I hope you guys can continue that in the next.

"Thank you to the players, staff and especially the fans for showing me all the love from day one. I appreciate you all for bringing me some of my best memories in my career so far. I don’t think there will be a more exciting feeling than scoring in front of the Kop end.
