More details released after 'gunman' stages terrifying armed raid

A armed robber escaped with £6,000 in a morning raid on a Post Office. The man walked into the premises within a shop and levelled a bag at the counter claiming it contained a gun.

Now police have issued a picture of a brolly-carrying suspect they wish to speak to in connection with the incident in Stockport. The robber, believed to be acting alone walked into the premises in Councillor Lane, in Cheadle, at about 10am yesterday.

On entering the premsies he wedged the electric sliding door open and approached the counter with a white bag holding an unknown item demanding cash. He then left on foot with the cash.

No arrests have been made but enquiries are ongoing to locate the suspect. After enquiries, officers have identified a man (pictured) they would like to speak to in connection with this incident as they believe he has vital information that could help.

Detective Sergeant Chris Oldham, of GMP’s Stockport district, said: “We understand the concern this incident will raise in the local community and we are actively exploring a number of lines of enquiry. As this happened in broad daylight, we are confident there will be witnesses and we are now appealing to them to come forward and share any details with us that could help with the investigation.

“Thankfully no one was seriously injured or hurt during the robbery, but with a significant amount of cash being taken, we are committed on finding the suspect to prevent any further incidents. Patrols will continue in the surrounding areas to offer reassurance and we would encourage members of the public to continue to report or tell our officers of any concerns.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 0161 856 9790 direct or 101 quoting incident 911 of 25/03/2024.
