Money in football: Diafra Sakho abandoned £200,000 car at West Ham

The crazy amount of money in football was summed up when Diafra Sakho left West Ham United in 2018.

Sakho signed for the Hammers in August 2014 after impressing for French Ligue 2 side Metz, having been crowned the league’s Player of the Year in 2013/14.

The striker enjoyed a memorable first season in England, scoring 12 goals in all competitions – 10 of which came in 23 Premier League appearances.

But Sakho couldn’t build upon his decent start and the remaining two-and-a-half years of his West Ham career were a disappointment.

After failing to make a single start in the league in 2017/18, the Senegalese forward left the club in January 2018, returning to France with Rennes.

However, Sakho left a part of himself in east London in the form of his £200,000 Lamborghini.

Months after his departure, Sakho’s supercar remained at West Ham’s Rush Green training ground. Sakho had simply left it there as he began a new venture in France.

“He’d just bought it here and left it there,” a source told the Daily Mail. “The sheer waste of it, sitting there for everyone who walked past to see.”

Imagine being wealthy enough to simply forget about a Lamborghini. Incredible.

In their article, the Mail wrote: “The gargantuan incomes of Premier League football allowed a bang-average forward, who has since flunked in the French league and been loaned on to Bursaspor in Turkey, to view the idea of returning a £200,000 vehicle as simply not worth the effort.”
