Monare responds to Bafana selection over Jali: 'My job is on the field, not on social media'

Orlando Pirates midfielder Thabang Monare has responded confidently to his Bafana Bafana selection ahead of Andile Jali for the looming international friendly matches.

The 32-year-old is part of the 23-man squad that will travel to Belgium this week for a game against Guinea on Friday (19:00 SA time), before taking on world champions France in Lille four days later, next Tuesday (21:15 SA time).

Monare was a surprise inclusion as many football enthusiasts believed that the in-form 31-year-old Jali would get a return call up for national duty.

However, Bafana Bafana mentor Hugo Broos surprised the nation by giving Monare the chance to play on the international stage.

"My job is on the field. I don't dwell too much on what is happening in the media or on social media," Monare told reporters in Dobsonville.

"I feel like people have a right to their opinion, and I also have a right to my opinion, but it doesn't really matter to some other people.”

Meanwhile, Broos responded with frustration when asked why he did not select Jali.

"For once and for all, I'm very sorry… Since I'm here, everybody is always talking about Jali and Zwane," Broos said.

"I don't have a comment on that. You know why they are not here, so I don't have a comment on that; I will not repeat that every time. I'm very sorry, but for me, no comment anymore about Jali and about Zwane.
