Mo Salah: Referee's brilliant reaction when Egyptian complained about decision in AFCON final

It was heartbreak for Mohamed Salah and Egypt in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations final as they succumbed to defeat against Senegal.

An inspired performance by Egyptian goalkeeper Gabaski meant that The Pharaohs managed to take the game to penalties.

Gabaski saved Bouna Sarr’s spot-kick in the shootout, but misses from Mohamed Abdelmonem and Mohanad Lasheen meant Sadio Mane had the opportunity to win the game for Senegal.

And Gabaski could not come to his side’s rescue again as Mane dispatched with aplomb to condemn Egypt to a runners up finish.

It was a frustrating evening for Salah, who was unable to wield his influence on the game.

Salah had a few half-chances but he was unable to find the goal that Egypt so desperately craved.

He cut a frustrated figure throughout the game and he was particularly animated after one moment in the first half.

Sadio Mane was wiped out in a joint challenge by two Egyptian players in the 35th minute. Hamdy Fathy was penalised for the foul and was given a yellow card.

Salah was not happy as he complained about the decision to the referee, Victor Gomes.

But Gomes was not having any of it. After listening to Salah’s whining, Gomes then appeared to jokingly hand the winger his whistle and cards as if to say ‘you referee the game instead’.
