Mikel Arteta told of 'perfect' striker solution as Arsenal issued Dusan Vlahovic transfer demand

Nigel Winterburn has suggested Dominic Calvert-Lewin could fit in "perfectly" at Arsenal as Mikel Arteta searches for a new central striker.

Earlier this month, the Gunners identified Dusan Vlahovic as their number one target to bolster the club's attacking options, but the Fiorentina striker now looks set to join Juventus.

understands that Arsenal are now looking elsewhere, with the likes of Alexander Isak and Jonathan David both being considered, but one name that continues to be linked is Calvert-Lewin.

The 24-year-old still has three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract with Everton, but the Gunners are said to be admirers of the England international.

Winterburn, formerly of Arsenal, thinks the former Sheffield United striker could be the ideal fit at the Emirates Stadium.

Speaking to the Metro, he said: "Arsenal need a striker who could potentially score 20 league goals a season. I know Calvert-Lewin has been mentioned and I have spoken to people who think he would fit perfectly and score those goals in an Arsenal team.

"The question is: Do Everton want to sell? Isak has been mentioned as well, so whatever you do there's always an element of risk that comes along with it.

"The only conclusion I can make is that we definitely need a striker, and this problem isn’t going to go away because we’ll need one for next season anyway. Whenever we can get one in this transfer window remains to be seen."

Winterburn also went onto urge Arsenal to move on from the Vlahovic situation, with the 21-year-old destined for Juventus.

He said: "Arteta has said himself the club are working hard to bring someone in, but it’s difficult and when managers usually say that, then it tells you they can’t get who they want right now.

"Wit
