Mikel Arteta reveals how Man City boss Pep Guardiola has helped him at Arsenal

Mikel Arteta has revealed the advice Pep Guardiola gave him that has helped him lead a rebuild as Arsenal manager.

Arteta worked as Guardiola's assistant at City for three years, before leaving in late 2019 to replace Unai Emery as manager of Arsenal. It's been an up and down journey for the Spaniard at the Emirates Stadium, but after making some exciting signings - including Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko - and enjoying a good pre-season, the Gunners are being tipped to do well this season.

Arteta has always been complementary when talking about his time at City, and now Amazon's new documentary series All or Nothing: Arsenal has revealed how Guardiola helped his protégé make the step up into management.

"One of the biggest pieces of advice Pep [Guardiola] gave me, he told me it's the loneliest profession," Arteta said.

"When you close the door, it's you and your worries and your issues and your decisions that are always there. I don’t regret one decision I make, every decision I make is making me a better person or a better professional to prepare me for something that is going to come forward is another challenge. This is the way I take it, it's my decision to be here."

Under Arteta last season, Arsenal finished fifth in the Premier League table — an improvement on a pair of eighth place finishes before that. But it was ultimately a performance that condemned them to a sixth consecutive season without Champions League football.
