Mikel Arteta offers transfer update amid Arsenal’s attempts to sign Dusan Vlahovic and Arthur Melo
Mikel Arteta is unsure if Arsenal will be able bring in new signings before the January transfer window closes.
The Gunners have made Fiorentina star Dusan Vlahovic a top target with the club also holding talks with Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo over a loan move.
But speaking after the goalless draw with Burnley on Sunday, Arteta indicated the club are no closer to making additions to the squad.
‘In this market things are complicated,’ Arteta told BBC.
He added in his post-match press conference: ‘Well we are certainly trying but I don’t know if we are going to be able to do it. Let’s see.
‘It was what we planned but the market is difficult. It’s a lot to manage and we have to make the right decisions with players that we believe are going to help us.’
Arsenal are determined to strengthen up front with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future looking bleak after being stripped of the captaincy and Alexandre Lacazette out of contract in the summer.
Recent reports have claimed the club have offered Fiorentina £50million plus Lucas Torreira to land Vlahovic, who has taken Serie A by storm this term with a stunning tally of 17 goals in 21 games.

The Gunners have also held talks with Arthur’s agent and are keen to sign the 25-year-old on loan before the January transfer window closes.
Arthur has already agreed personal terms with Arsenal and wants to make the move to the Premier League.
Juventus, however, have been reluctant to give the deal the green light without bringing in a replacement.
