'Mike' star Trevante Rhodes reached out to Mike Tyson amid Hulu controversy

Hollywood star Trevante Rhodes tried to contact Mike Tyson after he criticised Hulu’s new show ‘Mike’, according to the actor.

The boxing legend has been embroiled in a long-running public battle with the American streaming giants for allegedly producing the unauthorised series about his life without his consent.

And Rhodes, 32, has revealed that he did his best to reach out to ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ – but never heard anything back despite his best efforts.

He told Vanity Fair: “I mean, that’s Mike Tyson, so it was apt.

“I reached out. I tried to make some type of connection via Instagram, and it didn’t work. But, you know, you try.

“I did my best… I’m sure I’ll see him, hopefully.

“I didn’t pursue it. I was pursuing a boxing piece because I like the aesthetic. I wanted to utilize it to understand and to develop a better understanding of the sport.

“Boxing is specific; it’s the same thing [as acting] because you’re putting on a show.

“I understand him. I relate in every way. So that was the reason why I was the right person for the piece -it was a spirit thing.”

A former track and field sprinter, Rhodes spent some time training with former world champion Anne Wolfe to get himself in shape for the role.

Asked about what it was like being trained by Wolfe, he added: “The most challenging aspect was how fearless the process was.

“She was incredibly instrumental. I mean, we trained today. I’m a little faster, I think.

“So I moved more. But for the show, she was just helping me understand his movement. It’s just emulating
