Mickey Quinn announces Longford retirement

Former Longford captain Mickey Quinn has announced his inter-county retirement.

In 2008, Quinn signed a rookie deal with AFL side Essendon and made eight appearances before returning to Ireland and linking up with Longford in 2012.

In his first season, they won the Allianz Football League Division 3 title after victory over Wexford.

He would go on to earn an All-Star nomination in his debut season and three years later would represent Ireland in the International Rules series against Australia.

The 34-year-old's last appearance was in a Tailteann Cup loss to Longford in May.

On Friday, Quinn posted on social media platform X: "On to the next chapter. 13 good years."

Gaelic Players Association CEO Tom Parsons also posted a message in recognition of Quinn's achievements, saying: "Congrats Mickey Quinn, class player, leader and role model for Longford GAA and as a player rep for the (GPA)."
