Michael Masi reportedly facing removal as F1 Race Director as FIA prepares to announce 'structural changes'

Formula 1 Race Director Michael Masi is reportedly likely to be moved to a new role within the FIA and away from his current job ahead of the new season, Sky Sports claims.

The Formula 1 commission was held on Monday afternoon in London with F1, the FIA, and representatives of every team meeting to look ahead to the new season and outline certain changes.

Among those, we saw the Sprint format tweaked but the main topic on the agenda was the FIA’s investigation into what happened in Abu Dhabi back in December, and what steps were going to be taken after that.

As yet, nothing official has been released by the FIA over said steps but ‘structural changes’ are expected to take place and, according to Sky Sports, that means Masi is very likely to be moved into a new role.

Their reporter Craig Slater said:

“‘Structural changes’ would suggest a change in personnel, potentially with regards to the race director”.

Certainly, it does seem as though the most likely course of action will be to see Masi moving on into a new role and then potentially a new structure in place that could see more than one person take on the Race Director’s responsibilities.

It’s expected that the FIA will outline their plans more firmly in the coming days.
