Michael Ihiekwe from Rotherham to Derby: What do we know so far? Is it likely to happen?

According to The Star, the club are hoping to get a decision soon on the defender’s immediate future.

The Championship-bound side have offered Ihiekwe a new deal to remain with the Millers beyond the season.

However, speculation has linked the Rams with a move for the 29-year old.

The Englishman featured 42 times for Paul Warne’s side as they finished 2nd in League One to gain promotion to the second division.

The centre back even contributed three goals and two assists to the league campaign.

Derby will be hoping to strengthen their side as they look to immediately bounce back from League One into the Championship having suffered relegation this season.

Despite Rotherham themselves gaining promotion, the defender has yet to agree terms on a new contract to keep him with the club.

This has seen Derby attempt to sign Ihiekwe for next season.

It would be a big loss for Rotherham to lose such an important player this summer, but the club have given him a few extra days to decide his future.

With Derby still yet to finalise the takeover of Chris Kirchner, their current ability to confirm transfer business remains up in the air.

If Kirchner can complete the deal to purchase the club then Derby should be able to commence trading again in the transfer market.

However, until then, it is more likely that Ihiekwe will remain at Rotherham due to the current financial position of the Rams.
