Michael Brown fires huge Sheffield United promotion warning to Championship rivals

Michael Brown believes Sheffield United are the team to fear right now in the race for a top six place.

The former midfielder, who made 172 appearances and scored 36 goals in all competitions, became a huge fans favourite during a five-year period from 1999-2004.

He was no stranger to big nights in a red and white shirt, scoring a string of memorable goals and he witnessed another impressive display on Tuesday as his former employers put four past promotion rivals Middlesbrough to move fifth in the Championship.

Watching from the SUTV studio, he felt it was a performance that should send a warning to teams still to come to Bramall Lane.

He said: "Do you think that's a statement?

"Now everybody's looking to the next few weeks and thinking who's coming? Who's going to be in the top six?

"And now, coming here, no one wants to come.

"Around the league now at the top of that Championship I think they will see Sheffield United coming up and they will realise there's some good players, some good performances and I think that's a great sign."

United moved up to fifth with the win, five points behind second-placed Bournemouth, albeit having played two games more.

They have 11 games remaining, six at home, with three of the top seven QPR, Bournemouth and Fulham still to come to S2.
