Michael Appleton reveals Blackpool transfer wish despite Lewis Fiorini loan deal

Michael Appleton is keen to add more faces in central midfield after the signing of Lewis Fiorini from Manchester City.

The attacking midfielder is the Seasiders' first summer signing and bolstered their options in the centre of the park. Appleton is keen to play with two number eights and a six this season.

It's understood that Blackpool are in the market for another central midfielder and utilising the Premier League loan market to do so would come as no surprise given Appleton believes that is an important market to use. The Seasiders still require a strengthening of quality in a number of areas to kick on this season.

"I think it is," he said when asked if central midfield is a position he feels still needs strengthening. "I think if we do go with three in the middle of the park for the majority of the season that's an area we have to make sure we've got numbers for and not just number but the right numbers and the right quality.

"Yeah, we'll continue to look in that area as well as obviously loads of other areas that need filling as well."

Grant Ward is on trial with Blackpool and featured in the friendly against Rangers. The midfielder was released by Neil Critchley and was with Reading earlier this summer trying to win a contract.

Manchester City winger Morgan Rogers is still a player on the table as Blackpool look for further quality out wide. Equally, understands the club are edging closer to agreeing a fee with Shamrock Rovers for full-back Andy Lyons.
